The dictionary definition of a ‘professional’ is someone who is ‘engaged in a specific activity as one’s main paid occupation rather than as a pastime’. And this is why I think the expectations of a Patient Engagement Professional are fundamentally wrong, flawed from the outset and require a complete overhaul.
I appreciate that sounds like an absurd thing to say from someone who has been working in a patient engagement role since 1995 and I’ve just set up a society for patient engagement professionals. Lend me you ear a little longer and I’ll explain.
